Surfin’ Music Video

08-27-08

This project was for my Motion Design class at VFS, the objective was to create a 90 sec music video for the song Surfin, written and performed by .firstChild. The concept was to create some kind of talent show with all this cliché acts as a metaphor that we have seen everything and there is nothing original, or as the lyrics say There is no new thing under the sun…

All the assets where built in Photoshop and animated in After Effects, if you are interested in the production process check this pdf document Surfin Process.

3D Music Ident

08-06-08

The objective was to create an ident for a TV music channel. I used Mograph + Sound Effector for the animation, and rendered it 4 times with different backgrounds, after a lot of editing and a little bit of After Effects here is the final result!

Voyager Infographic

The Voyager infographic was created by Tyler Lemermeyer, Leo Aguiar and me (Jaime Arvizu) for our Motion Design class at VFS. This project is about the Voyager space probes launched by NASA in the 70’s. So far is one the projects I’ve worked on that I have enjoyed the most, hope you guys like it! If you are interested in our process you should check out the animatic.

This is a part of the process of creating our infographic piece, once we finished the storyboard we made this animatic to check out the time of the different scenes as well as the relationship between the visuals and the audio, you’ll notice some stuff changed for the final piece including the script.

Box2D test

06-18-08

NOTE.-
So… turns out the flash plugin I added to my blog makes my site crash when you are using Internet Explorer (Firefox doesn’t have this problem) so I moved my particle test to a new page, you can view it by clicking on the link but you’ll have to use Firefox, I’ll try to fix this but it might take a while.

Mograph is fun!

06-04-08

…and its easy to use also, this is just a small excercise, pretty simple, but the possibilites of what you can accomplish are very exciting! Im starting to like Cinema 4d… again…

Lizzie Borden was innocent

05-31-08

I wanted to post this project a long time ago… but somehow I always ended up not doing it, anyway here it is finally! During the last slam I had the opportunity to work with Iván Cruz, Ed Ferguson and Rae Aberdeen, our mission: to prove Lizzie Borden was innocent of the murder of her parents, to find the real murderer and finally to make a small piece to show the audience what really happened on the famous case of the Hatchet Murders, all this in only 8 hours…

at the end of the day we won the slam! both the audience and the judge’s choice awards. Enjoy!

Modeling with Cinema 4d

05-29-08

Cinema 4d is a really friendly and easy to use software, its actually pretty good for modeling simple, geometric things, its rendering engine its also very good, you can add things like global illumination to make compositions more realistic or ambient occlusion to make your 3d models look more detailed… the only problem is that its UV texturing function is not as good or complete as other programs… i’ll keep experimenting with it but so far I haven’t been able to find a way to make a good texture mapping :(

anyway… here are some renders for my 3d graphics class… enjoy
